BBB Lists Top 10 Types of Businesses with Most Complaints in 2012

More than 888,000 Consumers Check on Area Businesses In First Half of 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Better Business Bureau today issued its mid-year 2012 report. During the first half of this year, the BBB provided consumers with 888,414 reviews on businesses in the Southern Piedmont – a 15 percent increase over the same time period in 2011 (775,481 inquiries).

“Consumers are doing their homework before contracting with companies,” said BBB President Tom Bartholomy. “They have gotten the message about how important it is to check a company out before doing business with them.”

In the first half of 2012, consumers filed 6,437 complaints with the BBB against area businesses – a two percent increase over the first half of 2011 (6,292 complaints).

Eighty-seven percent of complaints closed this year have been resolved satisfactorily (compared to 88 percent in 2011).
