BBB: What about gift cards and warranties when a business goes bankrupt?

The holiday shopping season is upon us and it could make or break many major retailers. Last week, retail electronics giant, Circuit City, announced that it is closing 155 of its more than 700 stores across the country. With many more retailers not only closing stores, but going out of business completely, consumers are confused about what will happen to their outstanding product orders, unused gift cards and extended warranties. The Better Business Bureau has advice for consumers about what to do when a retailer closes and leaves you with unfulfilled product orders or services.

BBB Tips: Start Looking for Holiday Jobs Now!

With the downward economic trend, the National Retail Federation estimates that holiday retail spending will increase by a paltry 2.2 percent, the slowest rate of growth in the last six years. As a result, companies are expected to hire fewer seasonal employees and, unfortunately, this means fewer jobs for cash-strapped consumers looking to supplement their holiday spending money.
